Influenza Viruses

Millipore offers a wide variety of antibodies for the detection of respiratory viruses, including influenza A and B viruses. These are large enveloped viruses, about 110 nm in diameter, with hemaglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) projections protruding through the glycoprotein membrane, and contain a segmented, single-stranded RNA genome. Both viruses have a high frequency of periodic antigenic shifts and cause periodic epidemics of influenza worldwide. These pandemics are particularly severe when mutations have resulted in dramatic changes in the HA or NA structure such that the virus strains are not recognized by circulating antibodies in a community of people. Millipore offers a wide selection of monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies for various strains of Influenza A and B.
