MTT Cell Growth Assay Kit
3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrasodium bromide, known as MTT, is a pale yellow chemical that is cleaved by living cells to yield a dark blue formazan product. This process requires active mitochondria. The colorimetric assay can be used for either proliferation or complement-mediated cytotoxicity assays.
Advantages
- Does not require the use of hazardous radioactivity or special equipment
- Ideal and inexpensive method for cell survival and cell proliferation studies
- Detect 200 – 50,000 cells per sample
