Entrez Gene Summary
This gene encodes a member of the glycosyltransferase 1 family. The encoded protein acts as an alpha 1,3 mannosyltransferase, mannosylating Man(2)GlcNAc(2)-dolichol diphosphate and Man(1)GlcNAc(2)-dolichol diphosphate to form Man(3)GlcNAc(2)-dolichol diphosphate. Defects in this gene have been associated with congenital disorder of glycosylation type Ih (CDG-Ii).
Description:
Anti-ALG2
Background Information:
The Apoptosis-linked gene 2 (ALG2) gene encodes a calcium-binding protein belonging to the penta-EF-hand protein family. Calcium binding is important for homodimerization and for conformational changes required for binding to other protein partners. ALG2 is required for cell death induced by different apoptotic stimuli. ALG2 protein is expressed in normal brains, and expression is increased in ischemic brains after transient focal cerebral ischemia.
Specificity:
ALG2 (Alpha-1,3-mannosyltransferase). By Western blot the antibody reacts with a band at ~ 47 kDa on human HepG2 cell lysate. An additional faint band at ~ 42-45 kDa may also be seen depending on sample and antibody concentration used.
Key Applications:
- Western Blotting
- Immunocytochemistry
Application Notes:
Western Blot Analysis: 0.5 µg/mL of Cat. #AB15854 was used to detect ALG2 in 10 µg of human HepG2 tissue lysate
Immunocytochemistry: 2 µg/mL of Cat. AB15854 was used to detect ALG2 in Human HepG2 cells.
